Just the mind-layer of my 1:1 Alchemy

I walked down the hall and heard the thought
“we literally got nothing done today” among other unpleasantries about my weight and health and overall image - then smiled at the thoughts and separated the first one out and asked compassionately and curiously
“is that true?”
And heard the adorable annoyed and depressed anxious antagonist in my mind say “well hardly”
to which the yogi-therapist me replied
“let’s make a ‘to-done’ list like you guide everyone else to do and find out if this is our “over-achiever perfectionist” out of balanced or if it’s just here to light a much needed fire under our ass (cuz sometimes we need that perfectionist and inner critic y’all, don’t shame her she’s a gem when it comes to getting it right;).
I started the mental list:
Recorded and uploaded vagus nerve meditations
2 1:1 alchemy clients
Finished David Whyte’s poetry seminar
Wrote a blog and edited another one
Rested our aching back instead of going to the gym
…
“Oh ok, I guess I did DO things,
But,…”
The antagonist starts again about how it’s not good enough and if we’re not careful about these thoughts it quickly turns into “I’m not good enough” and enter shame spiral.
So what do you do now?
We repeat the steps above
Aware
Acknowledge
Accept
Allow
Ask
Affirm
Appreciate
Action (which is sometimes surrender;)
Apply
Amplify
And, usually the simplified result of that purification process is “just do one small thing” and ALWAYS give yourself permission to rest, to have off days, to understand your grief and depression, to….. but first one small thing… maybe meditate, maybe write, maybe do the dishes, take a 10 min walk, the options are endless but first we learn to discern.
